OUR HISTORY
An Introduction
Saboo Sodium Chloro Limited is a modern, forward-thinking organization with a proud entrepreneurial legacy dating back to the late 1940s through the Saboo Group. Established in 1993 as North India’s first salt refinery, we have evolved into a leading consumer brand backed by fully integrated manufacturing of triple-refined iodized salt, powered by state-of-the-art technology imported from Germany.
Surya Salt, our flagship brand, is synonymous with quality and leadership across North India. With an annual capacity of up to 600,000 TPA of refined iodized salt and 1 million TPA of industrial-grade salt, our products adhere to stringent international standards and are exported worldwide—including to the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, Papua New Guinea, Mauritius, Korea, and Dubai.
Yet our vision extends beyond salt. Embracing sustainability and diversification, we have ventured into green energy and hospitality. Our first resort, Samskara Jaipur, is already operational, and we are actively seeking new opportunities to expand our hotel portfolio throughout Rajasthan and North India. We anticipate significant future growth driven by our investments in luxury hospitality, reflecting our ongoing commitment to innovation.
Listed on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), Saboo Sodium Chloro Limited upholds a longstanding tradition of quality, integrity, and customer-centric values. We invite you to join us on our journey as we continue shaping the future of salt production, clean energy, and world-class hospitality.
Our Managing Director and Promoter
Mr. Girdhar Saboo is an alumnus of the prestigious Mayo College, Ajmer, and a Chemical Engineering graduate (1993) from RVCE, Bangalore. He began his career with a pioneering salt-refining project at Sambhar Lake, securing financing from IDBI and venture funding from TDICI. This enabled the import of cutting-edge equipment from Germany and Switzerland and laid the foundation for Saboo Sodium Chloro Limited—now the largest fully integrated manufacturer of free-flow triple refined iodized salt in Northern India.
Mr. Saboo established our flagship refinery at Nawa City, Rajasthan—approximately 100 km from Jaipur—and we became the first modern salt manufacturer in North India, sourcing raw material from Sambhar Lake. Saboo Sodium Chloro Limited launched a public issue in 1995 which was met with overwhelming subscription. The company’s salt division today serves industries including consumer salt, chloro alkali, fisheries, textiles, and dyeing. Its products are also exported globally to markets such as Papua New Guinea, Mauritius, Korea, Malaysia, Dubai, Bangladesh, Kenya, and Ghana.
In recent years, Mr. Saboo has spearheaded the company’s expansion into the hospitality sector with a vision of developing five-star resorts in Rajasthan under the wholly-owned “Samskara Resorts” brand. A 52-room five-star property in Jaipur was launched in 2018, and a second 272-room five-star property in Jaipur has started construction in 2025. Under the forward-thinking leadership of Mr. Saboo, Saboo Sodium Chloro Limited has also established a 1.1 MW commercial solar energy plant in Madhya Pradesh and a 650 kW captive solar plant at its Nawa refinery, making it the first “green salt” refinery in India.

History of salt - SALT IS SO SIMPLE AND PLENTIFUL THAT WE ALMOST TAKE IT FOR GRANTED.
In chemical terms, salt is the combination of a sodium ion with a chloride ion, making it one of the most basic molecules on earth. It’s also one of the most plentiful.
But salt is also an essential element. Life itself would be impossible without it, since the human body requires salt in order to function properly. The concentration of sodium ions in the blood is directly related to the regulation of safe body fluid levels.
And while we’re all familiar with the many uses of salt in cooking, we may not be aware that salt is used in some 14,000 commercial applications. From manufacturing pulp and paper to setting dyes in textiles and fabric, from producing soaps and detergents to making our roads safe in winter, salt plays an essential role in our daily lives.
Salt has a long and influential role in world history. From the dawn of civilization, salt has been a key factor in economic, religious, social and political development. In every part of the world, salt has been the subject of superstition, folklore, and warfare, it has even been used as currency.
